50th SFOS production: Sept. 19-oct. 13, 2024

ArtSpan is honored to be producing its 50th uninterrupted SF Open Studios program this fall from September 19 through October 13, 2024. ArtSpan’s 2024 SFOS season returns to pre-pandemic and highly demanded early fall dates, when the days are longer and brighter. We invite all SF Bay Area artists* to join us in celebrating five decades of connecting local artists to city residents and visitors.

From Disco Days to the Tech Craze: 50 Years of SF Open Studios

ArtSpan’s SF Open Studios is a testament to the enduring power of art to bridge communities, and to the unyielding spirit of the artists who have been at the forefront of shaping San Francisco's cultural identity.

This year’s historic production begins with an archival exhibition at the San Francisco Public Library, From Disco Days to the Tech Craze: 50 Years of ArtSpan SF Open Studios, opening September 12. Followed by ArtLaunch, the SFOS Exhibition opening reception and SF Open Studios kick-off party. See below for weekend delineations and participation details.

*participation in sf open studios is for sf bay area artists who are members of artspan

 FAQs

  • SFOS Artists must be current ArtSpan Artist members, and be registered for one of three tiers of participation for SFOS.

  • SF Open Studios is open to artists in the San Francisco Bay Area who are members of ArtSpan and registered to participate in SFOS.

We welcome participants from outside the city of San Francisco who wish to participate; however they will need to find a space in the city to exhibit during an SFOS weekend. ArtSpan’s Open Studios Committee develops a list of “Venues Seeking Artists” to help those seeking an SFOS space. To access this list, you must be registered member of ArtSpan.

  • ArtSpan’s SFOS Printed Guide is a 120+ page full color catalog featuring articles on the history of ArtSpan & SF Open Studios, as well as a directory of SFOS artists participating at the Premier and Choice levels. The artist directory includes an artwork image, studio information, and details necessary for readers to connect with SFOS artists and their event(s).

The Printed Guide is widely distributed throughout the city of San Francisco and is a treasured resource for art enthusiasts who wish to contact artists directly beyond the SFOS season. Historically, SFOS attendees keep the Guide as a memento and a reference for artists who caught their eye during SF Open Studios season.

  • ArtSpan’s expansive SFOS Exhibition accompanies ArtSpan’s SFOS season. Space is limited in the Exhibition and must be reserved by eligible SFOS artists. In August SFOS Premier & Choice level artists will receive an email from ArtSpan to reserve their 20” x 20” exhibition wall space.

The SFOS Exhibition offers visitors an expansive survey of contemporary art in diverse mediums, and provides a preview of participating SFOS artists they can visit during the SFOS season.

  • Please email info@artspan.org and one of our team members will get back to you.
