ABOUT

Lawrence Festin was born in Quezon City, Philippines and immigrated to San Francisco at the age of two to the Mission District. At around three years old he moved to Chicago, IL and several months later moved to Houston, TX. At the age of four he moved to Elizabeth, NJ where he grew up until moving back to the Bay Area at the age of twelve.

Throughout his childhood he was enthralled by cartoons, comic books, and American television and movies. As a slightly older person he was introduced to Hiphop and found his place in its culture, and used the lens of Hiphop to view and understand the rest of the world. In his artistic practice, Festin attempts to emulate his influences and distills his imagery to include references to history, politics, society, and personal experiences. He considers his work a mix of Pop, Neo-Expressionism, Surrealism, and Art Nouveau.
