Celebrating the rich culture and diversity of San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood
Using art as a vehicle for community engagement, Excelsior Art Initiative partners local artists with small businesses to creatively augment venues in San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood. These innovative art installations vibrantly redesign the street-facing windows, parklets, and walls of art-supporting businesses. The Initiative uplifts the community, supports small businesses and local artists, and spotlights the vibrant creativity of one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods.
After five successful years, we are looking forward to returning in 2024 with more art in unconventional spaces and proud to partner again with Excelsior Action Group and the Jerry Nite to form part of synergistic neighborhood-wide celebrations on August 3. Check back for announcements on upcoming installations and events happening from August-November this year.

2019 Excelsior Summer Window Displays and ArtWalk:
Featured image: KB + YAX installation at [x]Space
ArtSpan’s Summer Window Displays and ArtWalk was introduced to build connections with the Excelsior neighborhood and community ahead of the organization’s planned move to its new permanent home at 45 Onondaga Avenue; just a block off of the Mission Street Commercial Corridor. The custom window displays highlighted the already significant presence of artists in the neighborhood and strengthened partnerships between artists, business owners, Excelsior residents, and ArtSpan. All this while visually brightening the corridor, and drawing traffic to our partnered businesses and the corridor as a whole.
